The prototype locomotive was built by Avonside in 1902 for the Llanelly and Mynydd Mawr railway in South Wales.
Here is an interesting little 0-6-0 locomotive. It is designed to fit the Hornby or Dapol Terrier Ready-To-Run chassis. Either the older or newer chassis versions will fit.
The prototype locomotive was built by Avonside in 1902 for the Llanelly and Mynydd Mawr railway in South Wales. It was named Great Mountain which is the English translation of the Welsh Mynydd Mawr.
In 1923 the railway was taken over by the Great Western Railway and the locomotive numbered GWR No. 944. It was sold to private use in 1929 becoming Hatfield No. 4 working at Hatfield Main Colliery in Yorkshire, where it worked until the 1960s.
The engine seems to have been painted in a reddish brown colour. It had variations of detail throughout its life. Refer to photographs to see the variations at different times.
Buffers, handrails and chassis shall need to be sourced separately.
