00 Scale LNWR Crampton Scratch Aid

This is a 00 Scale model of the LNWR Crampton locomotive ‘Liverpool’ – in her day claimed to be the most powerful engine in the world.

Description

This is a 00 Scale model of the LNWR Crampton locomotive ‘Liverpool’ – in her day claimed to be the most powerful engine in the world.  Britain’s only 6-2-0, built in 1848 as an answer to record-breaking GWR broad gauge engines, she was exhibited at the famous 1851 ‘Great Exhibition’ (winning a medal) but owing to reported track damage was largely in storage at Camden until ‘rebuilt’ into a more standard 0-6-0 at Wolverton in 1859.  Nonetheless it was a notable step in locomotive development and the largest of the once-popular Crampton type of design.

A scratch aid, these parts provide the primary parts for a fully working model.  While a tender chassis is to be developed by the builder (motorised or free-rolling), a slot-in unit is also provided to accept a rtr motor chassis as an easier solution.  Driving wheels, axle and eccentrics are included, plus inserts for the cylinders to hold the slide bars (0.5mm x 2mm nickel steel strip; advice on fitting can be found in the N Gauge video below).  In case commercially-produced driving wheels are preferred (scale 8ft such as Alan Gibson catalogue code 4896) spare add-on eccentric centres are also provided (maximum total width with these not to exceed 24mm).
