Description

This is a free-rolling N Gauge model of Archibald Sturrock’s GNR ‘Single’ No. 215 – the first British express engine with a pivoting bogie. Although the prototype required modifications to improve the bogie, it proved the viability of a London-Edinburgh service inside eight hours. Coupled to the various motorised coaches/trucks also available, a fully working ‘Era 1’ N Gauge train can be created.

IMPORTANT FOR CONSTRUCTION: The bogie is handed, with the recessed end intended to be rear-facing. To ensure as much turning clearance as possible the loco buffers should ideally be fitted keeping the scalloped portions of the bufferbeam clear – for example by cutting from the sprue at an angle and gluing in place with this uppermost. The tender comes with a warning bell to be fitted on the left front side and a rear-facing guard’s seat (figure included).

Necessary to Complete:
• X6 Spoked wagon wheels
• Couplings (the method used is at the builder’s discretion but ELC couplings can be fitted to the tender)
• Weight (the boiler is hollow – best fitted in the firebox)
• Styrene strip – to retain wheels
• Pin (for bogie mount)

Optional additional details to scratchbuild (at the builder’s discretion):
• Graham Farish Royal Scot driving wheels (if preferred instead of the 3D printed wheels provided)
• Lamp irons (holes provided)
• Reverser lever and regulator (their bases are pre-printed)
• Smokebox dart
• Tie bars and brake rodding
