Description

Designed by OVS Bulleid after leaving British Railways (and his Leader project), CIÉ No. CC1 was an experimental Irish articulated steam engine designed to use turf as fuel. The last steam engine built for Irish railways, 1957, the design made advances from Leader and proved moderately successful even with some efficiency and visibility issues. Nonetheless, Bulleid’s retirement in 1958 saw the end of the trials, CC1 being withdrawn and scrapped by 1963.

Necessary to Complete:
• Tomytec TM-TR02 Powered Motorized Chassis N scale (x2).
• Graham Farish wagon wheels (x2)
• 0.5mm styrene strip (to retain wheels and for shims where necessary)
• Wire (flexible electrical pickup between bogies and modelling wire for end pipes and brake gear)
• Weight (the chassis weights can be reused centrally but additional weight in each body end is advised)
• Couplings (the method used is at the builder’s discretion but ELC couplings can be fitted)

Construction is similar to the NM Leader – details at: https://youtu.be/lj0fpYuc1AE NOTE: the bogies are handed, with the double-oil boxes (atop the main chain baths) on the side with pipework. The motorised and dummy chassis likewise only properly fit with the worm/shorter end towards the bufferbeams.
